Here Are The 19 Most Silly & Funny Things Ghanaian Celebrities Did In 2016

2016 saw a lot of things happening in Ghana but these few carried out by celebrities and prominent Ghanaians were the dumbest of them all.

Here are 19 dumbest things Ghanaian celebrities did in 2016.

1. Obinim Transformer

The country was shocked when out of the blue, popular pastor, Bishop Obinim on a Television interview claimed he could transform into any animal or anything he so pleases when he enters the spiritual realm. He even made it clear to the presenter he could transform into a snake and bite her as they sit, this raised a lot of comments from Ghanaians including pastors who lambasted him and made it clear that his statement was stupid.

2. Afia Schwarzenegger Vs Kennedy Agyapong

Both characters are well known their distasteful public utterances and so it didn’t come as a surprise when Afia Schwarzenegger verbally attacked Kennedy Agyapong with regards to a comment he made about the brother of the president and he also responded. Yes, Kennedy who is well known for his utterances didn’t take things lightly and descended on Afia and took her to the cleaners. At the end of it all, both parties realised their mistake and apologised to each other to end the beef.

3. Diamond Appiah Vs Afia Schwarzenegger

The case with Kennedy didn’t end there, Afia Schwarzenegger switched on to Diamond Appiah, a business woman, musician and MP aspirant who lost woefully in the just ended elections. Diamond insulted Afia on many social media platforms and even accused her of being HIV positive. Till date, none has realised how dumb these statements were and we still haven’t heard any of them call a truce.

4. Bukom Banku Bleaching

The country was thrown into pandemonium when one of our “greatest” boxers, Bukom Banku decided to bleach his skin. This was the dumbest thing he’s ever done. He was on TV and radio defending his act by saying he was bleaching so he could get an ambassadorial appointment to Germany when the NDC wins the 2016 elections. Ultimately, he realised how stupid he looked and decided to stop.

5. Bibi Bright Vs Akua Addo

Out of the blue, a rant between Bibi Bright and Akua Addo, both actors surfaced on twitter with both parties revealing damning secrets about their private lives to the extent Akua Addo accused Bibi Bright of sleeping with her own cousin stating incest and Bibi also revealing Akua pays for her awards. Something we feel they were both being childish and as celeb should never have involved in it.

6. Kennedy Agyapong On Charlotte Osei

Kennedy Agyapong is one of the few prominent Ghanaians well known for being unable to shield his utterances and in many cases he’s insulted a lot of prominent Ghanaians without mincing words but the one thing that got a lot of people really pissed was when he said the EC chairperson, Madam Charlotte Osei got the position after sleeping with some big men in government. This was one of the dumbest things we ever recorded coming from him. However, after receiving a lot of bashing from Ghanaians, he apologised.

7. Wanlov And D-Black Beef

Just when we thought we’ve seen and heard it all, Wanlov da Kubolor, a Ghanaian musician, decided to write a diss song for MTV for listing D-Black as one of the best rappers in Ghana. D-Black did not take kindly to this, also decided to reply Wanluv da Kubulor with a voice note. Just when we thought it had ended, Wanlov released another diss song titled, “Ah Well”. The content of these songs really leaves much to be desired.

8. Shatta Wale Insults Obour On Twitter

From nowhere Shatta Wale took to twitter to lambast Obour the MUSIGA president, accusing him of not caring for Ghanaian musicians and calling him all sort of names. This did not call for a reply from Obour but we feel it was really dumb for Shatta Wale to pull that stunt without any provocation.

9. Kaakie Dissing EL And MzVee Just For Attention

Kaakie went silent for some time and when she stepped back into the music scene, she decided to hit on some few people in the industry and she had no other people to attack than MzVee and EL. This was one of the dumbest moves because that stunt didn’t bring her the shine she was seeking. She’s still pretty much irrelevant in the industry.

10. Shatta Wale And Criss Waddle Fighting Over Bie Gya

There was a lot of controversy after the release of “Bie Gya” and this created a feud between Ghanaian musicians, Criss Waddle and Shatta Wale. Shatta Wale, as usual, used the opportunity to make some dumb statements on TV, claiming Criss Waddle is gay and all that. Waddle also called Shatta Wale a sellout in one of his videos.
criss waddle and shatta wale

11. Obinim Lashing Church Members

This action by the pastor caused many Ghanaians to lambast him but he still saw nothing wrong it. It even caused some lawyers to sue him in court for lashing his church members in the church.

12. Hassan Ayariga Insulting Charlotte Osei By Using The F-Word

Hassan Ayariga stooped low when he used derogatory words on the EC chairperson when he was disqualified from the presidential race in this year’s elections. He later realised his folly and apologised but the harm had already been caused.

13. Akua Donkor Presenting An Underage Running Mate

When it was time for all presidential candidates to present their running mates, Akua Donkor presented a farmer who Ghanaians later got to know was below 40 years. They both later said her date of birth as indicated on her nomination form, was a mistake but it was obvious she was not close to 40 years. Many are those who saw this as a dumb move by Akua Donkor because it clearly indicated that she had no idea about the office she was seeking to occupy.

14. Hassan Ayariga Saying Nana Addo Is Still Living In His Father’s House

Hassan Ayariga in an interview instead of promoting the policies of his party, the APC, rather chose to denigrate the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo by claiming he’s not fit to be president because at his age he’s still living in his father’s house. I mean what has this got to do with anything when the man in question is a responsible family man with children and has achieved a lot in his life.

15. Gbese Mantse Claiming He Will Step Down If Nana Addo Wins

During the heat of the 2016 elections, Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi Bonte who was impressed by the good works of president John Mahama on live TV, stated that from what he’s seen, there is no way the NPP will win the 2016 elections. He vowed to vacate his throne should the NPP win. Many people are calling him to be a man of his words but he’s surprisingly pulled a u-turn.

16. Tracy Boakye Insulting The President-Elect In A Video

In politics, during campaigns, a lot of things happen and people say all sort of things but a video advert for president Mahama which was acted by Kumawood actress, Tracy Boakye was 100% below the belt. It even got pulled off TV. In the video, she claimed that even mad people were smart enough to vote for President Mahama. On several social media platforms too, she used all sort of names on the NPP flagbearer. When Nana Addo finally won, she apologised for her uncouth behaviour.

17. Ola Michael Calling The NPP Flagbearer A Mad Man On Social Media

Ola Michael is a movie producer in Ghana who before the elections decided to call the NPP flagbearer all sort of names. But the one statement he made that showed his lowest peak is when he called the NPP presidential aspirant a mad man in a comment on social media. We are sure by now he’s seen how stupid that statement was.

18. Afia Schwarzenegger Calling Delay Barren

In a social media rant, Afia Schwarzenegger called out Delay and called her all sort of names and even stated that she was barren.

19. Obinim Calling Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah A Fool On Live TV

In the aftermath of his infamous animal transformation comment, Rev. Korankye Ankrah in an interview indicated that such statements are not biblical and further called followers of Obinim ignorant. Obinim who owns a TV station used his medium to dish out insults on the man of God. He capped it all by calling him a fool and said he was going to ruin his church by sacking all his members. If this is not dumb, then I don’t know what dumb means.

SSNIT increases pension benefits by 18%

The Social Security National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has increased the pension benefits of pensioners by 18%, the corporate Affairs Manager of SSNIT, Eva Amegashie has disclosed.
“On the whole there has been an 18% increment for 2017. There is a fixed rate of 15% which everybody is going to collect of whatever salary you are earning plus GHc 17.41 and this will equal the 18 % increment,” she said in an interview.
The increment is however, lower than that of 2016 which was perked at 20%. Per the current hike, pensioners are expected to receive GHc334.81 as benefits from GHc276.00.
In the meantime, all fresh pensioners from January 2017 will receive a minimum monthly pension benefit of GHc276.00.
Also, SSNIT urges all pensioners who have not yet re-registered for their biometric smart cards to do so by 28th February 2017.
All unregistered pensions, according to a statement by the scheme, will have their pension payment delayed if they do not re- register for their smart cards.

President Mahama Inaugurates University Of Ghana Medical Center

President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the phase one of the University of Ghana Medical Center.

Inaugurating the facility, President Mahama revealed that the President-elect Nana Addo has assured him that the Legon Medical Center project will be given maximum priority under his administration.
Inaugurating the first phase of the Center Wednesday, President Mahama said the facility will promote medical tourism in the country.

The Center together with Korle Bu will serve medical students from the University of Ghana.

It is expected that phase 1 will have 650 beds and Phase 2 will add 350 beds to increase the total number of beds to 1000.

Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah

The founder and leader of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry International, Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah has claimed that some elements within the national Democratic Congress (NDC) attempted bribing him.

The NDC big men, he said sent a foreigner to his house who assured him that he would be offered a contract to build schools if he keeps quiet.

“They sent a foreigner to my house, to come and tell me that if I keep quiet, I would be awarded a contract to build schools…they said they would execute it for me and bring me all the monies that would accrue from the contract,” he alleged.

The man of God who was speaking on Accra-based Oman FM said the foreigner approached him because the NDC accused him of always revealing secrets.

The unnamed foreigner, he said left his house and returned later to inform him that the people who sent him said they were serious about the bribe offer.

Artistes likely to wear the rap crown after Sarkodie

File Rap

Nothing on earth is forever permanent so everything under this sun apart from the Holy Religious Scriptures will definitely come to an end someday. So in reality, no man will stay on top in life forever, likewise also be at the bottom forever.

In similarity to our local music industry, whiles some artiste gets their breakthrough in a particular year with one or two music singles which makes all the waves for them, majority also keep struggling to get hit songs despite several efforts making them get less recognition in the industry.

Last year 2015, Bisa Kdei had his breakthrough in the music industry with his ‘Mansa and Brother Brother’s’ hit songs as it enjoyed massive airplay on radio, TV and also became the peoples’ favorite songs for their parties and festivities.

But in the year 2016, times have changed a bit for Kdei because he has been struggling to get a hit these days. Sarkodie has enjoyed some good times with his hit songs like ‘Baby, U Go Kill Me, Adonai, etc’ in the past years but he is still struggling to get another hit song that will be on the lips of many Ghanaians including kids. Although, he keep making waves because of the brand he has created over the years.

Nothwithstanding, this piece will seek to throw more light and acknowledge some few young and upcoming artistes who stand the big chance of taking over the Ghanaian music scene in years to come and continue the legacy left behind by rappers like Sarkodie, Obrafour, Okyeame Kwame, etc…

Their effort of taking over the future mantle of the industry is being measured in relation to their output so far in the industry in 2016 provided they still keep pushing without becoming complacent in years to come. The young and upcoming artistes to be looked at not arranged in any order of importance are below:

MEDIKAL Medikal to take rap crown after Sarkodie Medikal, real name Samuel Adu Frimpong, is currently one of Ghana’s fastest rising and youngest hip hop artistes. He is currently signed to Criss Waddle’s AMG (The Arab Money Gang) Business record label. Medikal had his breakthrough when he released the ‘sick track’ titled ‘connect’ when he mimicked the rap styles of seven great artiste in Ghana. Right after, he has been featured on a lot of tracks in the year under review. He has released songs including Confirm, Forever My Love (featuring Bisa Kdei), Confirm Remix (featuring Sarkodie), By Heart Boy, Connect, Too Risky and others. Therefore, as we’ve enter into a New Year of hope, entertainment pundits and music lovers in the country are expecting and hoping to see Medikal breaking boundaries with his rap style and kind of music he does.

KOFI KINAATA

The High Grade Family member Martin King Arthur popularly known as Kofi Kinaata is known for his Fanti rap and freestyle dexterity to combine humour to rap lyrics. The self-acclaimed Fanti Rap God has proven beyond doubt that he was born to do music. He won the Song Writer of the Year and Best New Artiste of the Year awards at the 2016 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards with his single ‘Susuka’. He just released the much anticipated hit single titled ‘confession’ which is doing well in the airwaves. I believe it’s just a matter of time for Kofi Kinaata, because he’s definitely part of the future of the Ghanaian music industry.

STRONGMAN

Vincent Kweku Osei known on stage as Strongman is part of those who holds the future of rap music in Ghana. Forget his age, the nature of his raps shows that he is a force to reckoned with in Ghana’s rap music industry. Truly, when I look beyond this Sarkodie era in Ghana’s rap music, I clearly see the Strongman era! His ability to fuss proverbial sayings with rap make listening to him enjoying in any day. He won the Next Big Thing In Gh Hip-Hop few years ago which shot him into fame on the national level and moved ahead to sign unto the Mic Burners Label. It’s the expectations of music lovers in the country to see strongman continuing the rap legacy laid down by Sarkodie in some time to come through hard work.

PERSONAL OBSERVATION

However, many young Ghanaian musicians have come to spice our music scene with some one-time hit songs which was embraced by the majority just like how these young acts has been predicted as the future of GH rap are doing but sadly, those artists impact in the music industry became short lived as they couldn’t live up to the expectations and some are listed below with their hit tracks allocated: Atom – ‘Ye Wo Kurom’, OD4 – ‘Darling’, Secure Pabene – ‘Secure’, Dr Slim – ‘Seke’ feat. Dobble, Mimi – ‘Leave Me Alone’ feat. 4X4, Diamond – ‘Popping’, Zigi – ‘You Say Wey Tin’, Nana Boro – ‘Aha Ye De’, Okuraseni Samuel – ‘Homework’, Eduwodzi – ‘Yenko Nkoaa’ feat. Stay Jay and many others.

Therefore, we’re hoping acts like Medikal, Strongman, Kofi Kinaata, TeePhlow, and many other hardworking upcoming acts will not relax but keep the fire burning with back to back hit tracks into the Ghanaian music industry till the world acknowledges and recognises them.

Rashida Black Beauty management pulls down ‘Malafaka’ video

Rashida Black Beauty AWARD
Rashida Black Beauty

Management of 2016 Jigwe Award winner, Rashidatu Mohammed, whose controversial video popularized the term ‘malafaka’, has finally pulled down the controversial video from Facebook two months after its release.

In an interview with freelance journalist, Lord Kweku Sekyi, Bismark Atta Boamponsem (Mr. Awesome), who currently heads Rashida’s management team, said the decision became necessary due to Rashida’s growing brand which requires the need to shift focus to her current projects.

“Initially, the reactions were mostly negative, because of the strong language and references to sex, but gradually, people started expressing their love for her, so a new chapter is opening.”

According to Mr. Awesome, the 18-year-old’s sudden rise to fame has changed her perception about life and boosted her morale to work hard towards her dream of becoming an actress — which is on course, after she received offers from some of Ghana’s leading production houses.

He says Rashida will enrol in a training programme to improve herself for the industry.

“Sometimes, good things come out of bad situations, and that’s exactly how Rashida’s journey has begun. And already, her fan base extends to Europe and America, because, aside the malaka part, a lot of people think she possesses something special within her to do better in life.

Rashida Black Beauty is now a brand that portrays confidence and pride of being an African with dark skin,” he concluded. Rashida is one of the most searched Ghanaians on the Internet in 2016, after her use of the term ‘malafaka’ (a corruption of the offensive American slang, ‘motherfucker’) in a video that was shared thousands of times on various online platforms.

In the video, originally meant for her ex-lover who she referred to as Kushman, the young lady claimed he had verbally abused her after jilting her for another lady.

Rashida proudly touted herself as “Black Beauty”, and narrated how faithful and supportive she had been to Kushman prior to the break up.

At Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region where the story originated, a rap song, titled Malafaka, was released by Mr. Awesome and his rhyme partner Kooko, which had Rashida featuring in the video, a situation that led to a video reply from Kushman, who attacked the two rappers and referred to Rashida as having a “black dog’s face.”

On December 22, 2016, Rashida’s video beat “I can’t think far” by popular comedian Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin, to receive the award for Viral Video of the Year at the Jigwe Awards organized by Viasat-1 TV at Kempiski Hotel in Accra. In the same month, the Rashida Black Beauty fan page on Facebook hit over 20,000 likes in just three weeks.

Mustapha Hamid, Spokesperson for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the President-elect, has hinted that names of persons to occupy cabinet positions and other ministerial portfolios in the new government will be unveiled 24-hours after he is sworn into office.

But Hamid on Starr Today stated that that the real list of persons penciled for the respective positions will not be hidden from the public after January 7, 2017.
“Within 24-hours after he has been sworn into office, we will get to know who his ministers will be. For now I don’t think we need to give any credence to a purported ministerial list being circulated”, he emphasized.

Sports minister peeved: I wasn't informed about Akufo-Addo, Black Stars meeting

Lante Vanderpuye Fails Courtesy

Outgoing Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye says he was disrespected when the Black Stars team met a delegation sent by President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo without his knowledge.

He says it was "appropriate" for his office to have been informed about the meeting because the team belongs to the State and it is under the care of outgoing President, John Dramani Mahama who in turn has mandated his minister to take charge.

In an interview with Mamavi Aboagye, host of AM Show on the JOYNEWS channel on MultiTV Monday, the Minister said he deserved some respect since "I am going round looking for the budget for the team to go to Gabon."

Spokesperson of the President-elect, Mustapha Hamid led a delegation from the incoming government to meet the Black Stars at Alisa Hotel in Accra Sunday.
He conveyed to the team the wish of Nana Akufo-Addo which was for the Black Stars to win the 2017 Africa Cup for the country.

Stand-in Black Stars captain, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu who spoke on behalf of his colleagues assured the incoming President that they would end Ghana's long wait for a major title.

The Udinese star said the "team is poised for action when the tournament starts on January 14," adding the team had started the preparation towards the game.
''With the quality in camp, the cohesion and team spirit, I think Nana will be proud of us by the time the tournament ends,'' he said.

Mr Vanderpuye who has had issues with the management team of the Black Stars since he was made the Sports Minister said the behavior of the team was in bad taste.

"The Minister of Youth and Sports on behalf of the President and Ghanaians should be informed," he said.
He said the Black Stars has every right to congratulate the incoming President, but "if the team is going to be involved in anything it is appropriate to inform me."

Mr Vanderpuye's claim did not sit well with Spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sani Daara who argued to the contrary.

"In fact he was informed by the Director of Protocol of the GFA," he said, urging Ghanaians to disregard the Minister's claim.

He said the team belongs to Ghanaians and it should not be subject to segmentation by anyone in the country. "It is the avenue where Ghanaians unite."

Dormaaman Education Fund disburses GHȼ500,000.00 as scholarship

The Dormaaman Education Endowment Fund spent more than GHȼ500,000.00 in support of brilliant but needy students in the Dormaa Traditional Area.
The fund, since its establishment by the Dormaa Traditional Council 16 years ago, had benefited 1,609 students that comprised 1,013 males and 596 females in the form of scholarship packages.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang-Badu, the Paramount Chief of Dormaa, disclosed this at the end of year party of the Traditional Council on Friday at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Brong-Ahafo Region, saying the beneficiaries were in various senior high schools and tertiary institutions in the country.
In addition, he said, the Fund had awarded a scholarship of GHȼ50,000.00 to 100 students comprising 57 males and 33 females in senior high/technical and vocational schools and tertiary institutions for the 2016/2017 academic calendar.
